The 2023 China Biopharmaceutical Industry Conference kicked off in Xiamen of Fujian province on May 7 by showcasing the city's latest technologies and research achievements in biopharmaceuticals and is creating a fertile environment for innovation and entrepreneurship.Themed on "Building an Industrial Ecosystem to Promote High-Quality Development", the conference attracted academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, as well as executives, experts and leaders from the biopharmaceutical industry to share new perspectives on topics such as antibodies, vaccines, molecular diagnostics and recombinant protein drugs. The conference covered key aspects such as innovation and registration, technology and the industrial chain, quality and system, safety and evaluations.Jointly hosted by the Xiamen government and the China Biochemical Pharmaceutical Industry Association, the conference has created an integrated model boasting a full industrial chain of "production, education, research, application and investment", gathered 120 leading companies such as Danaher Corp, Thermo Fisher and Sinopharm and developed a blueprint for the innovative, technological and industrial development of the biopharmaceutical industry in Xiamen and China as a whole through the sharing of expertise from industrial leaders. It consists of one main venue, four sub-venues, eight seminars and satellite meetings, as well as a number of high-end seminars and business matchmaking sessions. As a key part of the conference, a matchmaking event between medical and health institutions and local pharmaceutical companies was held to enhance mutual trust and understanding and boost the high-quality development of the pharmaceutical industry in Fujian. It covered three major activities: a seminar on innovative drugs and medical devices, an exchange meeting on clinical research and medical institutions' visits to industrial parks.The biopharmaceutical field has flourished in Xiamen in recent years with an industrial cluster of 10 sub-sectors: biopharmaceuticals, health equipment, functional foods, healthcare products, biological services, biological manufacturing, health services, bio-agriculture, marine biology and pharmaceutical e-commerce.To promote high-level innovation, Xiamen has built more than 40 national, provincial or city-level research and development (R&D) innovation platforms, public technology service platforms and pilot industrial bases, over 10 national innovation platforms including the National Institute of Diagnostics and Vaccine Development in Infectious Diseases (Xiamen University), and 20 public service platforms in the biopharmaceutical industry.
